Alexa Krezel announces school board campaign

Annandale resident Alexa Krezel has announced plans to run for the Braddock District seat on the Fairfax County School Board, assuming current school board member Rachna Sizemore Heizer wins the special election for Braddock supervisor on Dec. 9.
Both Krezel and Braddock school board candidate Tom Dannan of Burke are seeking the endorsement of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee.
Krezel has already earned the endorsement of four current and former school board members: Megan McLaughlin, Mateo Dunne, Ricardy Anderson, and Sandy Evans.
“I’m running to represent Braddock District families and taxpayers because I believe that our schools need practical data-driven policies, that teachers should be able to focus on teaching, and that public schools should prepare students for life, not just the next test,” Krezel said.
As the parent of an FCPS student, Krezel said, “I want the same stability, security, and success for every student that I want for my son.”

Krezel served on the FCPS Career and Technical Education Advisory Committee from 2011 to 2023.
She is president of the Woodson Orchestra Boosters, former PTA president at Canterbury Woods Elementary School (2020-21), and this year represented the Braddock District on the 2025 School Bond Committee.
If elected, Krezel intends to use her professional experience to deliver practical solutions focusing on four major priorities:
- Let teachers be teachers: Treat teachers as critical partners in student success by protecting planning time, investing in their growth, advocating for competitive compensation, and removing barriers to innovation.
- Build pathways for everyone: Ensure that every student in every school has access to the same opportunities and is ready for the future, regardless of their post-graduation path.
- Ensure policies are data-driven, practical, and transparent: Develop policies that have clear goals and show evidence of helping students, and provide plain-language explanations to the community.
- Simplify engagement, amplify participation: Help every family stay informed and engaged by meeting families where they are, including encouraging the use of virtual meetings.
According to the press release announcing her candidacy, “Krezel has spent her career as an expert in high-performance, mission-driven organizations, translating complex systems into practical tools that empower both learners and leaders.” She currently works at Fannie Mae, specializing in learning operations.
“We should have a school system that communicates well, makes smart policies, and relies on useful metrics to track progress,” Krezel said. “We must also keep in mind that we are a school system of great privilege and great need, and that all our students, families, and teachers deserve respect and access to the same opportunities.”
Krezel recently completed a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Maryland Global Campus. She also has a master’s degree in instructional design and professional certification in project management.
