The bottleneck on Sleepy Hollow Road in front of Congressional School during drop-off and pick-up times could eventually be resolved.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a funding agreement Jan. 25 that calls for the private school to contribute land rights for the Sleepy Hollow sidewalk project and pay up to $25,000 to widen the entrance to the school.

The Congressional School entrance is currently configured to allow a single lane of entry to the property. As a driver passes the existing gate to the property, the driveway expands to two lanes. During peak traffic periods, drivers on Sleepy Hollow Road regularly experience significant delays.

The agreement calls for the entrance to be widened to allow vehicles from both northbound and southbound Sleepy Hollow Road to enter the school property at the same time.

The proposed project will remove the existing stone columns and walls and add new curbs, and a sidewalk. The total cost of the project is estimated at $50,000.
