Gold’s Gym in Bailey’s Crossroads to relocate to bigger space

The former HHGregg store.

Gold’s Gym is moving into the former HHGregg store in Bailey’s Crossroads.

That building, at 5718 Columbia Pike, has been vacant, except for a temporary Halloween store, since HHGregg closed in 2017.

The gym on Carlin Springs Road.

The Gold’s Gym at 3505 Carlin Springs Road in Bailey’s Crossroads is expected to relocate to the new larger space in 2021.

The new gym will have a 3,000 square-foot turf area, as well as cardio equipment, resistance machines, fitness classes, and personal training. Memberships will carry over to the new location.

  1. Yes, this is terrific news. And just as when some commenters lay the blame on Penny Gross when something bad happens in Mason District, Penny should receive the credit for this positive development.

    1. When she stops promoting all the concentration of section 8 housing and ending the violence is when I will give her kudos. On these issues, she has failed big time. I hope the gym does not end up being a hangout for MS 13 gym rats, that would be a huge deterrent for its success.

    1. They should turn it into one giant food court that has nothing but hot pot and korean bbq joints because we don't have nearly enough of those.

    2. 7:57 you just made me lough out loud.
      like
      literally.

the best food court is one with Korean BBQ and Hot Pot, a true American cuisine

  2. The shopping center that Gold’s Gym is moving from and the area around it is ripe for redevelopment. I understand Tuesday Morning already went out of business.

If the county could work with developers and businesses in the area to:

    1) Reprise the Mill Creek project across the street.
    2) Develop shopping center with REI/Gold’s Gym as part of Mill Creek development or as an associated project and….
    3) Redevelop the aging Grandview Apartments complex and replace with one (or two) modern, more energy efficient building with at least the same amount of units. Rest of the property can be sold for other uses.
    4) Realign Carlin Springs road between 7 and Columbia Pike, expand it to two lanes each direction from Seminary to Columbia Pike, make it a lot more safe for pedestrians, and update Carlin/Route 7 intersection to make it more efficient and safe.

The projects would invariably seek to accommodate current businesses in the new development.

Hopefully that spurs whole bunch other development in Bailey’s that we can all agree is long overdue.
