Jersey Mike’s is coming to Annandale

The space being renovated will be a Jersey Mike’s.

Jersey Mike’s Subs is expected to open in Annandale in early September.

It’s located between the future Wingstop and Moby Dick House of Kabob in the new retail center at John Marr Drive and Little River Turnpike. Wingstop has set an opening date of July 30. That retail strip also includes a future Hangry Joe’s and Patient First.

Jersey Mike’s specializes in hot and cold submarine sandwiches with various combinations of meat, cheese, peppers, and other ingredients.

There are about 2,000 Jersey Mike’s locations, including 15 in Fairfax County. The closest ones are in the Ravensworth Shopping Center on Port Royal Road in Springfield and Avenir Place in Dunn Loring.

The chain grew out of Mike’s Subs, a small shop that opened in 1956 on the Jersey Shore. A teenager named Peter Cancro worked there, and when the shop came up for sale, he bought it with financial help from his football coach.

Cancro opened more locations and in 1987 changed the name to Jersey Mike’s and began franchising. He is still the owner and CEO of the company.

  1. Nice, a good sub reliable place opening up nearby. Now if we can only get a healthy fast-casual like Mezeh to open up in central Annandale…

  2. Exciting! I love the food Annandale already has, and I also love seeing new additions.

Other things I’d love to see (sharing in case aspiring entrepreneurs want to take note):

    (1) More breakfast options: We have a ton of great grab-and-go bakeries, but somehow almost no coffee cake, breakfast burritos/tacos/empanadas, or traditional donuts. (I’m open to being corrected and would be grateful for recommendations.)

    (2) Fast casual: salads, Mediterranean, Indian? (I know I put forward a lot of unhealthy breakfast options, but I’d like to have additional healthy-ish options for lunches or nights when we’re not up for cooking.)

    (3) A full-service gym. A chain would be fine. Gotta work off those mochi-nuts and donuts somewhere, you know?

    1. You do realize the “Fairfax County” doesn’t decide to “put” businesses anywhere? I don’t care for all the cancer shops either, but the county isn’t putting them there.
