Jimenez forms an arts advisory committee

Artists display their works at Artopolis at Beanetics in Annandale in December.

Mason Supervisor Andres Jimenez established a Mason Arts Advisory Committee to review Fairfax County’s Master Arts Plan and propose art-related activities in Mason District that align with that plan.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved the Master Arts Plan for Facilities in 2023 to expand community access to and engagement in arts and culture. The plan, developed by ArtsFairfax, provides a blueprint for cultural facilities. The Master Arts Plan for Public Art is expected to be released in early 2024.

The Mason Arts Advisory Committee, chaired by local artist James Albright, will hold four initial meetings to bring artists and groups in Mason District together to review the Master Arts Plan.

The meetings will be held at the Mason Government Center, 7-8:30 p.m., Feb. 22, March 21, April 25, and May 16.

The first meeting will consist of a conversation about the community and the arts in Mason District. Local artists, residents, and representatives of community organizations who would like to participate should contact the office of Supervisor Jimenez at 703-256-7717.

At the March meeting, the group will learn about the Master Arts Plan, and at the April meeting, they will come up with recommendations for art-related projects and a timeline for projects that can be accomplished in the short-term, medium-term, and long-term.

The group will draft a document at the May meeting to be presented to Jimenez with a matrix of desired goals and a possible schedule.

The second stage of this effort will consist of reconstituting the Mason Arts Advisory Committee as a formal entity. It will hold regular meetings and plan activities to implement the goals identified in the initial effort.

  1. How about government make the streets safe and clean and let the citizens worry about art? You’re an elected official in 2024 and an arts advisory committee is what you come up with?

  2. Jimenez needs to establish a crime advisory committee. Things are out of control lately, this blogs’ crime report gets longer every week
