Linconia Park Rec Club uses county grant to enhance streetscape

The Lincolnia Park Recreation Club (LPRC) parleyed a $3,000
Fairfax County Neighborhood Enhancement Partnership Program grant into what is
likely to be $25,000 worth of landscaping when the project is completed.
About 60 to 70 members of the pool—with assistance from
other residents of the Lincolnia Park-Heywood Glen neighborhood and students
from Holmes Middle School—spent two weekends digging a huge bed and planting
shrubs along an entire block along Montrose Street on land owned by LPRC.
But it was the donations from local businesses that made the
project feasible, says Anne Wuhrur, a member
of the LPRC board.. Page Chevrolet, the car dealership going up on Little River
Turnpike, contributed $900 worth of fencing, and Campbell and Ferrara provided
augers, six workers, and discounts on plants, Wuhrer says.
A neighbor, Jeff Strite, who owns Core Outdoor Living,
contributed a work crew, as well as a Bobca,t which made it so much easier to
dig the planting bed, which Wuhrer estimates is about 500 feet long and 15 feet
wide.
“Now we just have to make sure we water it and keep it
alive,” she says.

  1. What a wonderful story about how the community was behind an amazing project that enhanced the community as a whole. Thanks to the students and local business.

  2. Congratulations to you guys. I know it takes a lot of work and it is exhausting to do it all – gather volunteers, etc. GREAT WORK!
