‘Live fire’ training planned for Lacey Center
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department is planning a “live fire” training exercise at the Lacey Center on or around Aug. 14, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., says Fran Tunick, chief aide to Mason Supervisor Penny Gross. She wants residents of the Broyhill Crest neighborhood who live near the Lacey Center (3705 Crest Drive, Annandale) to know “this is a training exercise, not an actual emergency.”
“All permits and release forms have been acquired and notifications have been made to the Fairfax County Police Department and the Fairfax County Water Authority,” Tunick says. “These exercises are controlled and strict safety standards are followed. This event is for Fire Department personnel only. No resident will be allowed on the property.”
The Lacey Center is scheduled to be demolished later this month, to clear the way for the construction of a new elementary school. The police department has held training sessions on the site in recent weeks.
