Low-cost rabies clinic this Saturday
The Fairfax County Animal Services Division will host a low-cost rabies clinic for pets in Annandale on Sunday, Sept. 20, 2-4 p.m., at the Animal Shelter (4500 West Ox Road, Fairfax) for dogs, cats, and ferrets. The one-year rabies vaccinations cost $12. State law requires dogs and cats four months of age to be inoculated against rabies. Vaccines must be administered every one to three years, depending on the type used and the age of the animal.
To obtain a three-year vaccine, bring the pet’s rabies certificate indicating the current rabies vaccination and expiration date. All dogs must be on leashes. All cats and ferrets must be in carriers. Fairfax County 2009 dog licenses will be sold separately for $10. You must pay with cash or check.
To prevent your pet from contracting rabies, avoid contact with wildlife. Feed cats and dogs inside, walk pets on a leash, keep trash can lids tightly closed, and don’t keep wild animals as pets.
I checked the Fairfax County shelter website but they don't have this date listed at http://www.fairfaxcounty.gov/police/animal/rabies.htm#2009ReducedCostRabiesClinics . Is this event really happening this Sunday? Thanks!
