Meat store opens in Annandale

Wow Fresh Meat Market is now open in Annandale.

The small shop offers Korean-style meats for individuals and restaurants, such as short ribs used in galbi.

Other popular items include sliced beef brisket and several thicknesses of pork belly, including a thick-sliced variety called honeycomb.

The shop also has oxtail, sliced duck meat, whole chickens, beef feet, and small intestines, among other meats. The only non-meat items in the store are small containers of sliced radishes.

It’s a meat store, not a butcher shop, says manager Peter Song, because the meat arrives in packages and employees don’t carve up a whole carcass.

Wow Fresh Meat Market is identical, but a little bigger, than the original Wow meat store in Centreville, which opened in 2008.

The COVID pandemic has caused the opening of the Annandale store to be pushed back, Song says, primarily due to delays by county inspectors. The main sign above the counter is only in Korean but he hopes to add an English version.

Wow Fresh Meat Market, at 7131-C John Marr Drive, is the first place to open in a new building that replaced the Palace Restaurant next to the 9292 Korean BBQ restaurant.

Other places coming to the new building, which also faces Little River Turnpike, include a Korean restaurant specializing in grilled fish: Shabu, an international hot pot restaurant; and a coffee shop.

  1. a place specializing in grilled fish, awesome. I'm trying to eat lighter these days. I know Korean restaurants serve grilled mackerel but I'm looking for something diff than mackerel.

  2. Meat provides more protein per serving (25 grams per 3 ounces) than dairy (8 grams per cup), eggs (6 grams each), legumes (12 grams per ¾ cup), vegetables or nuts (2 to 5 grams per serving).
