A pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver Oct. 2 in the 4200 block of Annandale Road in Annandale, the Fairfax County Police Department reports.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Dalchoon Park, 74, of Annandale, the FCPD announced Oct. 6. Her family has been notified of her passing.

Park was struck shortly before 8 p.m. She was taken to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Detectives from the FCPD Crash Reconstruction Unit determined she was crossing Annandale Road outside of a crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle at low speed in the northbound travel lanes.

The driver did not stop to render aid. A witness observed a small white SUV or sedan stop in the area at the time of the crash, then drive away. Detectives continue to canvass the area to identify the vehicle.

  1. If the photo above is where this accident occurred, it’s worth pointing out that there is no crosswalk at the intersection that would allow a pedestrian to cross safely from one side of Annandale Road to the other side. The only crosswalk is at the end of Maple Place where it intersects with Annandale Road. That’s a serious and deadly oversight that should be corrected.

    1. I feel sorry for her family, and it is truly tragic. However the oversight was jaywalking at 8pm. The crime was fleeing the scene of an accident.

    2. Lines painted on the road would not have prevented this tragedy. If you not paying enough attention to see a person in the road, your not going to notice painted lines on the road.
A proper signal with flashing light might have helped.

  2. It would also help if they made that intersection a NO RIGHT TURN on red. Same at Columbia Pike and Gallows Rd. Too many accidents occurring at both intersections.

  3. This is a dangerous intersection with too many people jaywalking. A jerk directed traffic and told me to stop so his buddy could jaywalk across. Just ridiculous.

  4. I totally agree with Diane Meiser –that intersection at Gallows and Columbia Pike is so dangerous — that stupid walk sign just makes it all the more dangerous. No one turning right off Columbia Pike can see anyone walking across the road — and to think that a person stops to look at a walk sign is ridiculous. Furthermore, the most horrible thing to happen to anyone is to hit another person with a car. Likewise, the section in the photo is dangerous and a no-right turn on red should be at Gallows and Columbia Pike and at Annandale Road. You have to wonder what these traffic “experts” are thinking. Why are we able to see a solution — they are the so-called experts getting paid. Meanwhile, people are having their lives ruined.

  5. I was at this intersection last night at 8:30. I was on Maple behind three cars waiting to turn right onto Annandale Rd. By the time I got to the light it was green. There was a SUV in the laundry parking lot with kids at the back of the vehicle. As I started to turn there were four teens or adults on the corner. I pulled onto Annandale Rd and there was someone on a bicycle riding across the road. Fortunately I remembered this story and was going very slowly. If I had been going faster…..

With all the restaurants, other businesses, and the high rise condo or apartment buildings in this area I think someone in the government should do something about this area (lights, whatever). It is a ver dangerous area.

  6. I was driving in this area Saturday night 10/8 at roughly 8:30 pm. I was on Maple Place at the light behind three other cars. By the time I got to the light it was green and I started to turn right on Annandale Rd. There was a SUV in the parking lot on my right with young children. As I turned I noticed a group of individuals at the corner. When I got on Annandale Rd there was a man on a bike crossing Annandale Rd (no crosswalk).

Remembering the hit and run from last Sunday night I can understand how that women was hit. There are numerous businesses and shopping centers open at night in that area and also a number of high rise apartment or condo buildings.

This is a dangerous intersection at night and probably in the daytime too. It needs to be addressed NOW!

  7. No worries- Your elected officials will fix this … and the murder spree and the burglaries. Their solutions will be bike lines and traffic circles and charging stations — that intersection is also across from the outdoor drug market/ bathroom. That’s where the group of men loiter around the grassy area. Police refuse to intervene. Another once beautiful residential neighborhood destroyed.

    1. My thoughts exactly. Pander to the victim class and the globalist elite, and all will be grand.

To hell with the vanishing middle class — those misinformed, unsophisticated gadflies who work jobs, pay taxes, and raise kids in the neighborhood.

  8. The crosswalk at Evergreen and Columbia Pike (crossing to get to the Aldi, or the not-7-11-anymore)…is super dangerous. I have been nearly killed there half a dozen times in the last two months.

Also, there is no sidewalk there to access the bus stop by the cemetery, on occasions when I want to do that.

This was not unsafe when I was a child living there in the 1960s. Now it is a death trap.
