Reid Voss is hiding his Republican background

Reid Voss speaks at a candidate forum on May 1. From the left: Jeremy Allen, Voss, Andres Jimenez, and Steve Lee.

Is Mason supervisor candidate Reid Voss deliberately courting Democratic voters by concealing his Republican past while encouraging Republicans to vote for him in the Democratic Primary?

Two recent articles posted by Blue Virginia detail Voss’s strong ties to the GOP. while his campaign flyers clearly state that any registered voter can vote in the Democratic Primary regardless of party affiliation.

A Blue Virginia piece posted May 20 accuses Voss of being dishonest when he states in a questionnaire that he hasn’t been involved in politics since he was a student representative on the Fairfax County School Board.

The article, “A Republican in Democrat’s Clothing, Part II: Reid Voss continues to mislead voters about his GOP identity,” links to sources showing that Voss worked on the staff of at least four Republican candidates and officeholders:

  • He was the campaign manager for Herschel “Buzz” Hawley, a Republican who ran against the Democrat that Reid is trying to replace, Supervisor Penny Gross, in 2003.
  • In 2004, Voss was on the staff of U.S. Rep. Jo Ann Davis (R-Va.).
  • He was a legislative assistant to Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) on the Government Reform Committee’s Subcommittee on the Federal Workforce and Agency Organization in 2005.
  • Also, in 2005, he was a paid contractor for Republican candidate Sean Connaughton for Virginia lieutenant governor.

“Normally, candidates for public office like to brag about their experience working in government and politics,” the Blue Virginia piece states. Yet Reid responds to questions about his background “disingenuously, implying that he is just now entering politics and has no background in the field to speak of.”

At a recent forum the four candidates running for Mason supervisor were asked about their history with the Democratic Party and their progressive values. Voss said he was friends with Tom Davis’ son, implying he only worked for Davis in 2004 because of the personal connection and said hasn’t been involved in politics since then.

He also said he considers himself a ”Barack Obama Democrat” and parted ways with the GOP “when they took on a social agenda that went completely against everything that I believe in in 2007 and 2008.” He does not, however, give specifics on what Republican policies he disagreed with.

Just five years ago, he was a leader of the movement to retain the name of JEB Stuart High School. He was the co-author of a manifesto to keep the name of a Confederate general that downplayed the role of slavery in the Civil War. There is more about that in the April 5 Blue Virginia article, “In Fairfax County, a Republican in Democrat’s clothing.”

  1. I thought it odd when my Republican neighbors were putting out Reid Voss signs. They’ve never been known to have anything other than R candidate signs on their lawns. It seems a bit nefarious.

  2. I’ve worked with Reid Voss on our neighborhood board. He stands out as sometime who just gets things done, which is what we need in a county supervisor. If he’s encouraging Republicans to vote for a Democrat, isn’t that a good thing in today’s bitterly divided politics?

      1. I’m a Democrat who vehemently opposed the name change of my school, especially to a stupid name.

    1. Absolutely not. Republicans are switching their affiliations and their votes after being elected to office as Democrats.

    2. Is he encouraging republicans to vote for a democrat, or is he a republican trying to trick or otherwise fool democrats to vote for him?

    1. Mike, who are you to claim someone is the REAL Democrat? Seriously, you’re just an anonymous commenter, just like me.

I’m a little surprised this Progressive Blog hasn’t posted this big news yet, but one of my personal heroines, Jane Fonda, has strongly endorsed Andres Jimenez.

      That does it for me.

      1. Call them center-left or far-left. “Progressives” are more concerned with dividing us up and assigning labels based on our identities and have forgotten their working-class origins. I’ll vote for a former republican if he can get things done. Elizabeth Warren and Hillary Clinton were once Republicans too.

  3. Seems to me that there is one single author to all of the negative articles written about Reid Voss – and it is not even a real name, just a screen name “Kindler.” Curious that a person who will not put his name out there is targeting one single person in the Mason District race.

    1. You attack the author but don’t dispute any of their points. At best, Reid Voss hiding his past. At worst he is a republican operative that’s deceiving voters to potentially win in a heavily democratic area. This is a new republican strategy and we only need to look to our southern neighbor to see what happens. Because of it, North Carolina now has a draconian 12 week abortion ban.

      1. Ron – a republican operative who is on the record for being pro-Choice? Who is running on the principles of protecting civil rights and common sense gun control? Who wants to improve access to mental health programs and wants to protect the environment? Doesn’t sound like anyone from the current GOP. Sounds like an excellent candidate for our district.

        1. I agree. The problem is that I don’t believe a word that comes out of his mouth. Like I said below, if he would have come clean about his background and describe how he’s changed, I would respect it. But if he’s hiding his past, why should I believe him now?

    1. The page on the FCPS site no longer exists, and the ranked choice voting adds complexity but I found this cached, so let’s take a look:
      https://imgur.com/aWuYa6a

819 voters selected Stuart as their first choice, compared to 1272 who voted for anything else. The 819 voters choosing on behalf of inertia, “tradition”, or worse, were 39% of the vote. Not a majority. The ranked voting lets us see that while there are plenty of holdouts for Stuart, virtually no-one wants it to be their second choice. We can see from the ranked score that Stuart claimed 917 of the 3239 points, or only 28%. A plurality, not a majority. Since the other options have one thing in common (not being named after a Confederate general) it’s akin to setting up a straw poll of one Republican vs 4 Democrats and being surprised that the split party could not capture the vote.

You know what poll I’d like to see the results of? How many community members would like to see the name return to J.E.B. Stuart. What do you think we’d see? I’m sure there are people still stewing over it (I may be replying to one) but it would be silly to think anyone would want to return. I understand thinking the name change was frivolous. I understand not caring one way or another. This man devoted time and energy as a leader of a campaign to keep a name that is -clearly- a dead issue a couple years later. The man calls himself a “progressive” but he’s willing to lead a campaign to hold on to ancient, useless, racist signifiers that everyone (except the voters, hopefully) forget a few years later. The sign that the renaming is “progress” is that years later it seems truly banal. It was easy, inevitable, fine, and to many people, probably meaningless. But “the progressive candidate” fought it. What a joke.

      1. Ranked voting is a democrat invention to suppress the will of the voters, aka anti-democratic. Although we are a representative republic and not a democracy. Sorry if my PhD in history is a problem.

        1. Love when republicans try to claim that more choice = anti-democracy. You purchase your PhD from Liberty University?

          1. It’s not more choice. One vote, one choice. Allowing non-citizens to vote and ranked choice voting decreases citizens’ voting power as a matter of fact.
Re: my credentials… Ivy league, full ride, graduated summa cum laude.

        2. No one is accusing your PhD in history of being a problem. But your mindset that we can’t evolve and strengthen our democracy might be. Our entire nations history is that of a democracy that has gradually refined and expanded itself into more just society. Our history should inform our decisions, but never limit our ambitions to improve. If ranked choice voting doesn’t favor your worldview, it may be time to reassess your assumptions.

        3. No one is accusing your Ph.D. in history of being a problem. But your mindset that we can’t evolve and strengthen our democracy might be. Our entire nation’s history is that of a democracy that has gradually refined and expanded itself into a more just society. Our history should inform our decisions, but never limit our ambitions to improve. If ranked-choice voting doesn’t favor your worldview, it may be time to reassess your assumptions.

  4. Thanks for sharing this information. It demonstrates that Reid Voss has strong roots in Mason District and is willing to participate and take positions which are not popular with progressives.

I don’t expect that Mr. Voss will win the primary because it is my sense the residents of Mason District are enjoying living in a community which supports racial, social, economic, and climate justice and will vote for a much more diverse and inclusive candidate to lead Mason District forward toward a more equitable future.

    1. “a much more divers and inclusive candidate”

Are you suggesting that mason district residents wont vote for Reid just because he is white?

I sure hope you aren’t basing your vote on the candidate’s race, and shame on anyone who does.

  5. I wish we could get a Wegman’s to open up in this area. I was really disappointed when the old K-Mart wasn’t going to be one and don’t like driving the extra miles for the ones in Tyson’s and Fair Oaks. Maybe the old Sears’ site could be a contender if it has a parking garage and two levels?

    1. K-Market is a blessing! An international grocery that’s in Annandale proper (and not the outskirts like H-Mart on Heritage) with much higher quality meat, fish, and produce than Annandale’s current Giant, Aldi, Safeway, and Harris-Teeter (technically Alexandria?). Wegman’s is great but K-Market is fantastic and frankly, needed.

  6. Lisa Downing, Democratic candidate for Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors will participate in a forum tonight, May 23rd on WJLA ABC 7 at 7 PM.

  7. Many are growing tired of a Democrat controlled Board of Supervisors which only talks the talk but doesn’t walk the walk.

    1. Who is this “many” to who you are referring? There is NO evidence for what you are claiming. NONE.

      1. How did you like your property tax increases the past three years? Our BOS just rubber stamps whatever the County Executive proposes.

  8. Sounds like another aspiring Tricia Cotham, the NC state rep who appears to have lied about being a Democrat, won in a heavily blue district, almost immediately switched parties, then cast the deciding veto override vote to revoke abortion rights in NC.

I sure hope we don’t see a similar post election flip here in Mason. Our fellow Virginians down in Washington County can attest that a Board of Supervisors absolutely can restrict your access.

  9. Voss will be a great supervisor for Mason. Who cares if he worked for Tom Davis? Sen. Dave Marsden (D) was once a Republican too. He’s got two votes in our house (and we’re independents).

    1. Reid has signs up in half of my neighborhood, all of my neighbors are working class Centrist Democrats ( for the most part) and the supporters I’ve spoken with see him as an effective change agent versus the status quo.

      1. I don’t believe this for a minute. All my neighbors who are working class Democrats like me who I talk to would love to have someone like AOC represent them instead of the current batch of stiffs who represent Mason District.

      2. You’ll see the same in mine. Signs up on houses of known Dems and Reps. Oh my, a candidate who might actually represent the best interests of Mason residents and not just the party.

  10. I do not trust realtors. They will say anything to snag that commission from you and add zero value to the actual process beyond getting your listing in the realtor-controlled MLS. Voss has not changed my stance on that and won’t get my vote

    1. Voss has my vote too and I am a center Democrat. Enough with the classifications: left, right, centrist, progressive, republicans, democrats and how about losers! Voss is not a loser, he is a winner and will make Mason thrive. All of you Dems that vote for the left of center democrats will get what you deserve: more crime, filthy roadways, reduced tree canopies, poor performing schools, blighted neighborhoods, illegal boarding houses and the continuation of a fleeting middle class.

The only thing about progressives is they are progressively arrogant and sometimes just plain stupid.

Voss is a centrist and I am confident he will make Mason the envy of the county instead of what is now considered the armpit of Fairfax County, i.e. “the Dump.”

      1. Well said, Vax. It’s been a pleasure to see you see the light. If only it happened sooner.

      2. Anyone who is familiar with your comment history on this website will have trouble believing your claim you are a center democrat.

This is the same concern the article has about Reid.

Do you have a history of involvement with the democrat party? Voting for Democrats? Donating to Democrats?

Because based on your comments here, it seems like you are not.

Does Reid have a history of involvement with the democrat party? Voting for Democrats? Donating to Democrats?

Not that I’ve seen. Quite the opposite. A history of involvement with the other side of the aisle. And demonstrated support for continuing to celebrate and elevate and enshrine the names of those who raised arms against the USA. It’s one thing to quietly have supported keeping the Stuart name. It’s quite another to fight to keep it.

It’s been said by several people both above and elsewhere that names and labels don’t matter. Yet Republicans fight tooth and nail to keep the names of traitors on buildings with American flags. And they fight tooth and nail to keep other people from using the labels they want to. And they label pretty much every democratic policy proposed or enacted as socialist, communist, and anti-american. You yourself have done this in plenty of comments on this website.

But now, labels that reflect values shouldn’t matter?

  11. A hit job on Voss from this blog, that constantly suppresses any speech via the comment section that does not fully comport with the Establishment Message? No surprise.

    1. If this is the Blogs opinion of Voss, then the Blog should think of itself as taking responsibility for the spiraling decline of the Mason for that is what will get if Jimenez gets in.

      Soooooo disappointed!

      1. Choosing competency vs incompetence is not bigotry. It’s using one’s analytic mind to choose, based on experience, knowledge and the ability to get things done.

Your choices may be buried in bias and have nothing to do with choosing the best and most qualified person to run Mason.

So be a sheep, follow the blindness herd and watch out for what you wish for!

    2. The fact that your comment is here is proof its content is nonsense. If your comments haven’t been approved in the past its likely that they were full of vile bigotry.

        1. Well it makes just as little sense as a reply to me as it does replying to Lets be honest, so might as well leave it there.

  12. Real changes need to be made in Mason. We need someone with a fresh set of ideas, who is invigorated to make real changes. Seems to me that Reid is that person. Not only has he has spent hours upon hours going door to door to meet constituents listening to what they want changed in the district, he is also personally invested in making the public schools better as his own children attend public school in the district.

  13. Let’s not vilify someone who dabbled in republican politics 20 years ago. So Voss worked with Tom Davis? Tom was a celebrated and unifying leader in our community. People evolve, perspectives change – JSHS alumni had reservations about the name change – that’s life. Place your bet on the candidate with deep local roots if you want positive change.

    1. It would be one thing if he discussed it and identified why he changed his viewpoints. I would totally respect that. Instead, he is hiding his past.

He’s not the only candidate with deep local roots. But he’s the only candidate to my knowledge that’s ominously hiding who he was, and likely who he continues to be.

      1. Let’s entertain the far-fetched idea that he is a Republican Operative. We are talking about the nuts and bolts of local politics – trash pickup, street paving, code enforcement, school budgets, tax rates etc. The board has no influence on the national societal issues you are citing. We need a competent, polished ambassador that will advocate for Mason District. Vote for whoever you think that is.

    2. Second that David – This idea that someone who worked for Tom Davis should be painted as some kind of right wing fringe lunatic is just insane ‘Jonny come lately’ talk from people who probably spent most of the last two decades living outside this area and have no sense of the actual community.

  14. I just dont understand why this is a newsworthy story. Plenty of politicans have switched political parties – Reid may have been a republican supporter but that was 20 yeras ago. The old GOP is unrecognizable from the GOP of 2024. Have any of the Anti-Voss people actually had a conversation with Reid? He isn’t hiding anything, in fact he talks often about his past. The man left a bigoted and hateful political party because he didnt recognize it anymore- wants nothing to do with it.

I encourage everyone reading this to take the opportunity to meet with all 4 of the candidates and make a sound decision on who they believe will be the best person to lead our district into the next phase – growth, better standard of living and equity for all –

I’ve met with all 4 candidates [either at Taste of Annandale or door knocking] and its clear that Reid is the best candidate for the job. He has a plan. He has a good answer for every hard question. He has an entrepreneurial background, has shown leadership whether in the business world or his community and knows how to improve Mason district because he spent his entire life here. His kids go to PUBLIC school here, he’s made investments in the community and his campaign efforts make him very clearly stand out from the rest. Raised more money and knocked on more doors to speak with constituents than the other 3 candidates. There is a reason why his signs cover half of my neighborhood – people believe in him, including Kaye Kory, Holly Hazard, George Waters.

Mason voters need to look in the mirror and ask some difficult questions- do we want more of what hasn’t worked for our district in the past or do we need to consider a different direction? Someone with deep routes who understands the complexity of the issues?

    1. Look, he went to Justice as student. Many folks who went there were against the name change. Stop being a nutty leftist and consider that there are other legitimate opinions. The name change was expensive. Although I prefer the new name, Im not bashing everyone that went there that have a different take on renaming their alma mater. You are a teacher, you are suppose be non bias and reasonable. May help you with getting the respect you deserve, I think!

      1. People who went to a high school that has changed names did not attend the school under the current name. So he attended Stuart HS; not Justice HS. My HS also changed names(Lee to Lewis). I had hoped it would keep its old name. But now that it has changed; I have accepted it and have no issues with it. But I still say that I went to Lee, now called Lewis. (Because that is what is was called when I was there). Many reporters/writers need to remember to write it like that when someone graduated before the name change.

  15. Supervisors have little control or direct impact on the school system – they can fund it or not, but management is in the hands of an executive hired by the elected school board. Comments to the effect that a candidate will address school issues are primarily political fodder – except where there is a generalized need for more money. One area, however, where a citizen (or a candidate) can have a big impact on the societal discussion is on specific issues like changing the name of a school – these require organization and commitment and are typically done at the neighborhood level. The first two of Reid Voss’ “values” on his website are public school topics – outside of his potential purview. The clearest demonstration of his public school “values” has been his efforts to resist the name change at Justice High School.

      1. What cost of renaming the school would have been acceptable to you?

        Hint:if it’s zero, then it’s wasn’t about the cost.

  16. Here is what I find ironic to say the least: Democrats rightly condemn voter suppression and intimidation, but some commenters seem to think that candidates and voters should be disqualified for lack of ideological purity as they define it. Everyone who lives in Mason District will live with the results of June 20. The Supervisor will be determining the future of our neighborhoods based on policies for land use, traffic, and county spending. Voters should focus on what will affect their quality of life, not partisan political labels.

    1. Where are the comments thay say that anyone should be disqualified from running in or voting in the election? Who is talking about ideological purity? I’m concerned that I’m being deceived about basic ideological identity.

  17. Since Trump hijacked the Republican Party, many people have left that party. I wouldn’t hold it against anyone who became an Independent or Democrat. What matters is the candidate’s qualifications and platform. I believe that labeling candidates as Republicans is a slur these days.

  18. I will vote for Reid. He understands the Mason District and performed well in the candidates forum. It concerns me when the “choice” candidate of the party, serves on the Planning Commission and has absolutely no clue about the adopted re-development plan for 7 Corners, can’t provide an answer on his vote for the Zoning Ordinance re-write. Please stop with the partisan bluff. He is the best candidate for the District.

  19. I knew none of the candidates at the beginning of this campaign. Voss knocked on my door, he’s the only one. I said I still have research to do before making a commitment. He said, that’s the way it should be, I hope you decide for me. Then I went to the debate. Next I read the Washington Post guide to the 2023 Democratic primary election (May 21, 2023). In my opinion, only Voss gave specific answers and solutions to the questions posed. Others cited their experience, the need for further study, citation of an issue, willingness to listen to the community, etc. We are talking local government, friends, it’s about how to get things done.

  20. This article, and comment thread, are a wonderful endorsement of my initial inclination to vote for Voss over the others. Many thanks AT and BlueVirginia, you’ve done an inadvertent service for Mason District voters.

    1. Here here Vincenzo. Voss has broad appeal amongst his future constituents – regardless of political party – he clearly has the acumen and momentum. Not one other candidate has proven they have the energy and stamina.

    2. Agree. He knocked on my door and I didn’t answer because I figured Voss was a typical democrat. Now I’ll vote for him.

  21. I fully support Reid Voss. We live in a sewage depot and I’m tired of it. Reid is the only candidate who has a vision to clean this place up. I don’t care if he is a Republican. Democrat or has purple spots. I’ve lived her 58 years and seen deteriorating living circumstances. People in Falls Church City don’t live like this. Arlington is so far ahead of us. You know when you cross into Dumpsterville on Columbia Pike. Time to replace the policies of the past! Vote Reid!

    1. Arlington is all democratic, progressive policy. Dense, mixed-use development, eschewing single family zoning, and the like. Are you that dense? I hope when I get old, I don’t lose all my marbles and common sense.

      1. Apparently you are young with no common sense. Mason has been Democratic for decades with all the residential and commercial possibilities that exist in Arlington. But they do it so much better. Maybe someday you should ride your skateboard down Columbia Pike and see what’s possible.

      2. Dawna, seems only able to attack a commenter rather than add anything construction to this conversation. That was a pathetic shot to our older community.

I suggest you read the 5/21/23 WP article about the candidates. All Jimenez can do is collect names and committees that he never attends and billboards these endorsements all over the place. Most of these endorsements are from party hacks that have seen their better days.

There is nothing compelling in his platform that differentiates him from the other candidates other than he is Latino. I just want to scream!!! Show me a centered Latino that can be on time and get things done and that candidate will get my vote. I don’t see anything here as such other than he is playing the Latino card. And for all the Latinos reading this, remember why you left your countries of origin: it’s because their governments could not govern as they were corrupt, repressive, ineffective and forced many of you into severe poverty, leaving most to have no other choice but to leave your homeland. That is what you will get with Jimenez, a lefty loser.

For Mason at this time, center is best, we need someone at the tiller to steer the ship steadily into the future with brighter horizons.

I rest my case, vote for Reid Voss.

        1. These zoning changes in Arlington and Fairfax will be these democrats’ demise. Constituents in both counties were overwhelming against these BoS unilateral decisions.

Increased density should only be encouraged in commercial areas and in places where there are transit hubs that warrant and can support higher densities. Wrecking single family communities w multi-family density infills will have an adverse affect on these counties’ quality of life, furthering the political divide and challenging the climate environment and infrastructures of our neighborhoods.

This was tried in NY’s outer boroughs in the 1940-70s and all it did was create burned out neighborhoods like the South Bronx. You would only hope that the BoS of our NOVA counties would do their research and learn from others, but they don’t, just too arrogant

And that is why I have labeled them the Board of Stupids.

  22. Here’s the deal. The Democratic Party’s establishment and the BoS (Board of Stupids) has endorsed Andres Jimenez for Mason District’s Supervisor. My read is that they have endorsed him only because they need a token Latino. Sorry, but endorsing someone because of his or her’s ethnicity is not a good reason and screams cronyism. This is not the 70’s anymore Gerry Connolly, perhaps it’s time for you to think retirement.

Jimenez has only made cameo appearances on the many committees that he has joined and has been criticized for little to poor attendance. As mentioned in an earlier post above, he failed to answer questions about the new zoning law that he was part of passing on the planning commission……………irrrrrrr!

Reid Voss is smart, a go getter, a Mason District home boy, a successful businessman and community leader of Lake Barcroft with a proven track record. We don’t want any more cameos, fake do nothings or party hack cronies. It’s time for these democratic party moth balls with their out of touch vision for Fairfax to get out of the way. We have had enough stagnation; my vote is for Mason to MOVE ON and STEP UP for a brighter future!

Signed, a 45+year Democrat. Vote REID VOSS!

    1. Hey Vax, and Let’s Be Honest, I’ll be honest, I find your references to Andres Jimenez racial background as a Latino, including referring to him as a “Token Latino”, to be incredibly ignorant and insulting.

You two have damaged Reid Voss by getting into the gutter and making an issue of Andres Jimenez‘s race. If Reid Voss is the candidate who is gathering the support of race baiters like you two, Reid Voss has NO PLACE representing the good people of Mason District.

You two wanna make an issue of the candidates’ race? You want to do this when Voss is the only white Man in the race and you two have clearly communicated you strongly support the white Man whose most prominent role in local politics up to now was fighting to keep the high school that many young men and women of color attend named in honor of a man who fought against this nation so the enslavement of people of color would continue in Virginia?

By his actions Reid Voss is not a person who wants to lead Mason District toward a brighter future. His own actions demonstrate he dwells on Virginia’s hateful, violent, past where a person’s race determined how they were treated by others; and you two focusing on Andres Jimenez’s race crudely show this is what Voss and his supporters would bring back to Mason District.

In contrast to your candidate’s backwardness, Andres Jimenez has made countless efforts to improve Virginia and this Nation.

One example of the respect Andres Jimenez has earned for his work is his recent endorsement by Jane Fonda who cites the actions Jimenez has taken to lead Virginia and America against the dangers of global climate change.

Jimenez is focused on leading the people of Mason District to a better future, not holding us back like Voss.

You two can take your race baiting against Andres Jimenez and shove it.

      1. Susie, you should ask Jane Fonda to move here w the homeless on Columbia Pike, the crime in Culmore, the boarding houses in Belvedere and send her grandchildren to Baileys Elementary.

Although the climate is an important challenge, the pollution of people and cars overloading our residential neighborhoods (and will get worse w the new Zmod zoning law change that Jiminez voted for) and overwhelming storm water management w run off from their paved front-yards turned to parking lots (Columbia Pike near Tyler) along w the demolition of Mason’s tree canopies to accommodate these front-yard parking lots are a worse form of pollution than Jane Fonda can appreciate.

Jane Fonda is a rich and overly entitled spokeswoman who is detached from the realities we live in daily in Mason. So bring her on, I’ll give her a personal tour, and then we can talk! She would run back to her mansion in Beverly Hills with her hair on fire.

Sorry but your argument is not compelling. Fonda and Jiminez are one dimensional. We need a supervisor that is multidimensional, who understands all the issues; and who currently addresses and solves many of these challenges on the front lines in our hood and its surrounds. Reid Voss does all this without chumming up to movie stars and the democratic establishment for attention and votes.

Would you take your car to a mechanic that boasts about how he fixed Jane Fonda’s vehicle and hasn’t a clue how he did that when asked or would you take your car to a mechanic that is under the hood daily and that has a reputation for fixing cars successfully? The answer is clear.

If you want Jane Fonda, tune into an old version of “Klute,” if you want Mason to rise from the ashes, vote Reid Voss.

    2. Reid knocked on my door. No one else did. Reid has a track record of showing up and getting it done. No one else does, as far as I can tell. Andes looks like a beta male waiting to be told what to do… because, he is.

      1. Jeremy Allen helped to defeat a data center that was planned right next to residential community in Mason, near Edsall Road. He has actually done more than just talk about issues.

  23. The following is a link to an article reporting that Jane Fonda has endorsed Jimenez, stating that:

“He has worked tirelessly to educate the public about the devastating impact of climate change,” Fonda said. “When elected, he will bring this experience to Fairfax County, where he will fight to increase solar tree canopies and [electric vehicle] charging platforms, moving the large region away from reliance on fossil fuels. I am proud to endorse him.”

  24. Scary and unbelievable – unbelievable – some Fairfax voters really believe you can cool the planet…we are done!……

  25. Jimenez got Hanoi Jane’s endorsement this weekend. Can’t think of a worse time than Memorial Day for the press release. Thousands of military families and veterans in Mason District. Never will forget her pictures on the anti aircraft gun when she was “protesting” while our boys were over there fighting.

Crazy question – why does an actress in LA care about Fairfax county minor league politics?

  26. Jiminez is just not that bright. He is nothing more than a name dropper that has been brown nosing anyone that he thinks can help him get elected. As for Fonda, she has always been a bit of a cracked pot.

While Reid Voss has been knocking on doors including mine, Jiminez has been sending non-English speaking dudes wearing BLM shirts to hand out his flyers.

Andrés you may want to consider a new campaign manager.

  27. Getting an endorsement from Hanoi Jane is certainly not a positive thing for Andres Jimenez.

  28. Vote for Andres Jimenez – he is qualified and ready to take on Mason district’s issues, and he is a true environmentalist and has been a hard working Democrat in Mason for many years.

    1. Hmm. Kindly define issues that are his priorities that match with our needs. Because I looked at his website and have followed him closely and his priorities are not my needs. My needs are basic local governmental functions.

  29. Jimenez can’t articulate his platform coherently . Steve Lee doesn’t have the juice. Voss is the only one who has a proven he has the entrepreneurial spirit. We don’t need an environmentalist candidate. We need a change agent.

  30. One should carefully look at Mr. Jimenez claim that he is both experienced and qualified to be our next supervisor vs. Reid Voss. Check out the June 7 Annandale Today article about Mr. Jimenez “missing in action” on the Fairfax County Planning Commission. Not only was his participation/attendance record as a salaried member of that Commission abysmal, but Mr. Jimenez only requested to serve on a fraction of the number of committees that other Planning Commissioners did and that all of them regularly attended meetings of committees to which they were not appointed, especially the essential CIP Committee. That is a common practice on the Planning Commission, adhered to by everyone but Mr. Jimenez.

Anyone appointed to the Fairfax County Planning Commission (FCPC) has to fulfill their responsibilities. The FCPC is a very important body in Fairfax County. The Commission advises the Board of Supervisors on all matters related to the orderly growth and development of land in Fairfax County. This includes, among others, the location, character and extent of all public facilities in the County; amendments to the County’s Comprehensive Plan; amendments to the Zoning Ordinance, the Public Facilities Ordinance, and the Subdivision Ordinance; rezoning and special exception applications filed; approvals of final development plans; and, where deemed necessary, the Commission may also forward recommendations to the Board of Zoning Appeals on variances, special permits, and appeals filed before that body. Unlike other Commissioners who have genuinely and earnestly taken on their responsibilities to the Commission, Mr. Jimenez has simply failed to show he has taken his role seriously. Beyond an embarrassingly poor attendance record, I can find no evidence of him leading the FCPC on initiatives, which means others on the Commission have to shoulder the work that should have been more equitably spread around had Jimenez carried out his share of the work. Moreover, a Planning Commissioner is a salaried position, and anyone with a comparable lack of participation would be fired. Is this the type of person folks want as their next District Supervisor?

I must assume that those who have endorsed Mr. Jimenez were unaware of his actions – or lack thereof – as a member of the FCPC. Lack of awareness would not be surprising as it took multiple VFOIA requests and days of looking at the Commission website and meeting video content to understand the degree to which Mr. Jimenez shirked his responsibilities to his fellow Commissioners and taxpayers of Fairfax County.

Vote for Reid Voss. He’s an energetic, action-action oriented candidate who will do great things for Mason District.
