The Audrey Moore Rec Center to undergo a ‘transformative renovation’

The aging Audrey Moore Rec Center is getting a makeover.

The Fairfax County Park Authority is moving forward with the renovation of the Audrey Moore Rec Center.

The community is invited to an informational meeting on the project on Saturday, May 2, at 2 p.m. at the Wakefield Forest Elementary School cafeteria, 4011 Iva Lane in Fairfax.

“The 76,000-square-foot facility is undergoing a transformative renovation,” the Park Authority states. The project scope includes:

  • an expanded fitness area and programming space;
  • a warm water pool to serve people with disabilities, seniors, and children;
  • an Olympic-size competition pool;
  • a childcare center;
  • and an expanded senior center in partnership with Neighborhood and Community Services.

Construction is expected to begin in late spring 2028 and should be completed in 2030.

The May 2 meeting will cover the overall renovation concept, the construction timeline, an overview of the rec center’s amenities and programmatic areas, and the future of the pottery workshop.

When the Audrey Moore Rec Center was built in 1977, it was the Park Authority’s first recreation center.

  1. What a great facility. We are lucky to live in a county with such a high quality of life. User fees help fund our great rec centers.
