Youngkin selects former school board member Elizabeth Schultz for state office

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin has selected former Fairfax County School Board member Elizabeth Schultz as assistant superintendent of public instruction.

As a school board member, Schultz opposed including gender identity and sexual orientation in non-discrimination policies and was an outspoken advocate against efforts to support transgender students.

Her Twitter account ThinkSchultz – which has been deleted – was full of pro-White nationalist and anti-LBGQT messages.

Schultz, a Republican activist, represented the Springfield District on the school board. She was defeated in 2019 by Laura Jane Cohen, who was endorsed by the Democrats.

Schultz, along with Youngkin’s nominee for superintendent of public instruction, Jillian Balow, is expected to promote one of the governor’s top education priorities – ensuring critical race is not taught in public schools.

Critical race theory is an academic framework for examining how racism is embedded in U.S. society. It is not taught in Virginia public school classrooms.

Balow is the former superintendent of public instruction in Wyoming, She promoted legislation in Wyoming calling for an online directory listing all teaching materials and curriculum used in each school as a way to ensure CRT is not being taught.

“Jillian and Elizabeth are going to be crucial in helping Secretary of Education Aimee Guidera restore excellence in education,” Youngkin said in a statement. “Under my direction, they will get to work on ensuring our schools remain safely open, ban critical race theory and political agendas from our classrooms, and rebuild our crumbling schools.”

Guidera is a consultant who helps educational institutions use data to improve outcomes.

Youngkin’s nomination of Andrew Wheeler for secretary of natural resources has been widely criticized by environmentalists.

Wheeler, a former coal lobbyist, headed the Environmental Protection Agency in the Trump Administration, where he rolled back regulations on clean water, clean air, and vehicle emissions and said climate change is not an “existential threat.”

  1. So sad. It’s incredibly relevant that you mentioned her white-nationalist anti-lgbt twitter account. I think if we can get the records from that twitter account it’s important to publish them.
Lots of Youngkin voters have no idea they’re supporting these adjacent people.

    1. Schultz was a disaster when she had the platform of being on our school board – I can’t imagine how much damage she will do at the state level.

  2. She should fit right in with Balow, who is renowned in the Cowboy state for her racist, anti-inclusive agenda.

  3. Elizabeth is phenomenal! A well-deserved position for a truly caring, thoughtful, competent, and capable leader. I can’t wait to see what she’ll do when not being bullied by a gaggle of conformist wokesters.
