Lincolnia fire caused by unattended stove

Firefighters attack a fire in Lincolnia [FCFRD]

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department – with help from Alexandria and Arlington fire units – put out a fire June 10 at a townhouse in the 4500 block of Southland Avenue in Lincolnia.

Fire investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen shortly before 1 p.m.

No occupants were home at the time of the fire. One occupant was cooking on top of the stove when she left home to run an errand.

Another resident arrived home and observed smoke coming out from underneath the front door. The occupant went inside to grab the dog and called 911.

Smoke alarms were in the home, but it was unknown if they sounded.

There was an initial report of one occupant unaccounted for. It was later determined that person was safe elsewhere.

The fire was contained to the two-story townhouse in the middle of a row. It did not spread to adjoining homes. There were no injuries.

Five occupants were displaced. Red Cross assistance was offered and accepted. Damages as a result of the fire were approximately $77,747.
