Local Sears stores survive as company shrinks

The Sears store in Seven Corners.

As Sears stores continue to close across the county – 51 will be gone by mid-February – the Sears stores in Seven Corners and Landmark continue to operate.

Several employees at that location said there are no plans to close the store. In fact, the Seven Corners Sears has a sign on the door seeking job applicants. There are 10 job openings listed online for the Seven Corners store, at 6211 Leesburg Pike, and two for the Landmark store, at 5901 Duke St.

However, the Lands’ End store-within-a-store at the Seven Corners Sears closed in January, and Sears Optical closed Feb. 1.

The Lands’ End company has ended its partnership with Sears, but continues to operate retail stores in other locations. The closest one is in Rockville, Md.

A note on the door to the Optical Center says the eye doctor will notify customers “as soon as we find a new office.”

  1. It is a sad sobering experience to walk into a Sears store. I always hope the employees are well taken care of if in fact the store ends up closing.

  2. Last few days individual on route 7, near Patrick Henry Drive and The Seven Corner's Sears with a very large sign twirling stating:
Sears Closing So Much Off On Jewelry, etc. Who Knows What Is Going ON. Wouldn't it be fabulous if an excellent/upscale restaurant would move in.
