The Fairfax County Park Foundation received a $40,000 three-year grant to remove invasive plants from Lake Accotink Park.

The funds, from the Society for Ecological Restoration, support the Fairfax County Park Authority’s Invasive Management Area projects at the park.

The grant will remove vines that are threatening trees and other invasive plants in three sites totaling 7.2 acres.

The project will plant native trees, protect mature trees, and support a healthy wildlife habitat. It will focus on harder-to-reach and difficult-to-control invasives that volunteers haven’t been able to reach.

  1. Swamp Accotink … new name if the BoS and county staff get their way… 30% drop in home value in surrounding areas… Then back of the swamp will be sold to developers for high occupancy housing development.
