Family of homicide victim reaches out to the community

Hernan Leiva

The family of Hernan Leiva,
who was killed in a parking lot in the Skyline area of Bailey’s Crossroads
April 17, launched a GoFundMe site to raise funds to help with funeral costs.

Leiva, age 58, worked at
the Target in Skyline. He was attacked by a coworker when he arrived at work early
Saturday morning. When rescue personnel found him, he was suffering from stab
wounds and blunt force trauma. They pronounced him deceased at the scene.

Bazen Berhe, 22, turned himself in to the police a short time later. He was charged with second-degree murder.

The GoFundMe campaign, organized
by Jesse Leiva of West Falls Church, has so far raised over $7,000.

“On April 17, 2021, we lost
a beloved Father, Brother, and Uncle,” he states on GoFundMe.
“We are confident he was greeted by our
brother Jason and his Mother Luisa at the Pearly Gates. Everywhere our father
went, his joyous spirit and lively sense of humor brought laughter to
many. He was an exemplary figure and beacon of light in your moment of
darkness. No amount will lessen the heartbreak, but any help is greatly appreciated.”

  1. What has been done to Bazen Berhe. Is he in prison. I was his team leader when I worked for Target and I terminated him from his position at Target because I knew he was a dangerous person but Target decided to let him keep his job. If he had not been allowed to keep his job this murder would not have happened.
