Public meeting to address the White Gardens resident curator program

The house at the White Gardens was built in 1939.

The Fairfax County Park Authority invites the community to a virtual meeting Monday, Feb. 27, at 7 p.m., on the future of the Resident Curator program for the John C. and Margaret K. White Horticultural Park.

The 13-acre park, at 6711 Princess Anne Lane, in the Falls Church area of Mason District, includes a house, barn, meadow, and horticultural treasures cultivated by John and Margaret White.

The Park Authority intends to approve a resident curator who would live in the house under a long-term lease and restore and maintain the house and grounds.

The one application submitted by a potential resident curator a year ago drew strong opposition from the community and from the White’s son.

The Feb. 27 meeting “is a continuation of an extensive public engagement process related to a proposed curator of the house and barn located in the park,” the Park Authority states. “After receiving and evaluating extensive community input on the initial curator application, staff will be presenting recommended next steps, including the management of the horticultural gardens and natural resources at the park.”

  1. Can we get a safe bicycle and pedestrian crossing near that site ? That would be a safer link from Mason to Sleepy Hollow and possible to get into FC and Arlington from the outer county.
