Asian night markets coming to Annandale

A new organization called Neon District DMV is hosting monthly night markets in Annandale featuring Asian food vendors and entertainment, beginning next Saturday.

The events will be held 3-9 p.m. at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space, 7200 Columbia Pike.

Neon District DMV is “a group of people who love food and getting together and want to do something for the local community,” says one of the founders, who goes by BK.

The first DMV Asian Night Market, on March 28, will have 30 vendors offering food from Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines, BK says.

There will also be about 10 nonfood vendors, traditional Thai dance performances, and Thai kickboxing and massage demonstrations. There is no admission charge; customers pay the vendors for food. Pets are welcome.

Neon District DMV has permission for customers to park at the Annandale Post Office at 4270 John Marr Drive and United Baptist Church at 7100 Columbia Pike. BK is still working on getting permission from Giant to use their lot.

Future DMV Asian Night Markets are scheduled for April 11, May 23, June 27, July 25, Aug. 29, Sept. 26, Oct. 31, and Nov. 21.

The May 23 event will be held in conjunction with the Asian Heritage Celebration hosted by the Fairfax County Community Revitalization Section and will start at 1 p.m. See the schedule of county events at the Eileen Garnett Civic Space here.

Some of the food vendors at the DMV Neon District Night Market might be familiar to the community, as they previously participated in the Taste of Annandale, the events hosted by the NVA Thai Center at the Eileen Garnett Park, and the Asian night markets hosted by a different organization at the Elmer Timberman Masonic Lodge in Annandale.

The events at the Masonic lodge aren’t being held this year because that building is for sale. The NVA Thai Center is continuing to host festivals in Manassas, but isn’t planning events in Annandale.

  1. This is a disaster. It’s nothing but the same lousy food trucks and a stage for anyone willing to perform for ten minutes. It’s going to tie up traffic, create noise issues and take customers away from local businesses every few weeks just to make quick money for these promoters. Why is the County supporting this?

    1. I drove by it yesterday afternoon
not knowing what it was. There was no backed up traffic. No noise that I could tell.

    2. The only issues I saw was that it wasn’t open long enough. Lots of people, no back up or disruption to traffic. The noise was minimal.
I had a fantastic time, you should come check it out and try something new to eat or get a little gift for someone!
