There are three ways to rent a bike from Capital Bikeshare: a single ride ($1 plus 15 cents a minute), a day pass ($10 a day), and an annual membership ($120). Ebikes are also available for a higher cost.

Bikes can be checked out with the Capital Bikeshare or Lyft app for iPhone or Android.

Discounts are available for residents who qualify for state or federal assistance programs.

Currently, there are no Capital Bikeshare stations in Mason District or Annandale.

Additional stations will also be added in the Belle Haven and Huntington areas and along the Mount Vernon Trail. With this expansion, there will be more than 100 stations across Fairfax County.

  1. This is excellent news. CaBi has proven to be a great investment – one of the most heavily used bikeshare systems in the country. Advocates for mobility have pushed for stations in the Mason District to provide another way to get around safely but quickly. The number and location of these stations will make a significant, beneficial impact in our community.

  2. Great…more trash laying around. There are hills in Fairfax…very few people will use these.

  3. I mentioned this in the last post about the bikeshare, but if I want to take this for a short ride starting in Annandale, where can I go and drop it off so I don’t get charged while I’m at my destination?

I would take this to the Library or the shopping centers in the Annandale Business District, but with no docking stations, I’ll keep getting charged…and the possibility of the bike being stolen.

Not going to use these unless other docking stations are built at destinations.

    1. The e-bikes don’t need to be docked at a station for the ride to end although I think the cost is slightly higher when not dropped off at a dock.

      1. I’ve used the bikes before and each time they had to be docked for the ride to end. The Capital Bikeshare website states not to leave them unattended.

Do you have knowledge not contained in the website?

        1. The red traditional bikes do, the grey e-bikes do not. You can get the Capital Bikeshare app on your phone and unlock/lock them by scanning the QR code. You don’t need to dock them at a station.

          1. After looking closer at the website, here is what I found:

**If you’re on an ebike, you can also park at any public bike rack within the service area for an additional $3. Members pay $2. **

I want to say I have seen public bike racks at the George Mason Library, def can’t say that about the shopping areas in the CBD.

Also, Capital Bikeshare has to confirm that the entire CBD is within the service area and that there will be enough e-bikes for use.
