Frozen yogurt shop opens in Annandale

A frozen yogurt shop called Yomo opened Nov. 15 at 7406 Little River Turnpike in Annandale in the former Casa d’Mama Pizzaria spot.
In addition to self-serve frozen yogurt, Yomo offers smoothies and Nutella crepes. Additional crepe varieties will be added later.

Yomo stands for “you only melt once,” says owner George Hayek, who immigrated to the U.S. from Lebanon in 2006. His family owns a bakery in Vienna. Yomo is a local business; it’s not part of a chain or franchise.
Hayek says he was inspired to open Yomo by his 16-year-old son, a student at Woodson High School, who complained that “all his friends want to do is sit at home and play video games.” He hopes Yomo will offer “a place for teens to gather, where they can get off their phones and talk to each other.”

Fro-yo flavors currently on tap include strawberry, mango, horchata, dulce de leche, taro, cookies and crème, acai, espresso, chocolate, and vanilla. Some of the flavors will be rotated every week.
Customers can choose among a variety of toppings, such as strawberries, mango, several kinds of boba and gummies, walnuts, craisins, M&Ms, and cookie crumbs.

Smoothie flavors include strawberry, blueberry, mango, and chocolate/banana. Customers can add any yogurt flavor.
Frozen yogurt is 65 cents an ounce. Smoothies are $6.50.
