Students get grade relief

It’s going to be a little easier to get a higher grade point average in Fairfax County schools, now that the school board has approved a new 10-point grading scale. Under the old system, a student needed 94 points on a 100-point scale to get an A. Now, an A is 93 to 100 percent (4.0). The parent group, Fairgrade, had campaigned for the charge, arguing that the previous system put FCPS students at a disadvantage in college admissions. Students will get an extra .5 weight for each AP, IB, or honors course.
